i think the worst rejection is falling for someone who is not ready
because it is not a lack of chemistry
it is not disinterest
there is something there
you can feel it in the conversations
the way they look at you
the moments that feel real
and then the closer you get
the more they pull away
it is confusing in a very specific way
you start wondering what you did wrong, what changed
what part of yourself was too much
and sometimes their fear is not a response to you
it is a response to closeness
to vulnerability
to the weight of something real
someone can care about you and still not have the capacity to show up the way you need
they can feel it too and still shut down and that does not make them cruel
it is just means they are not in a place to choose connection without fear
the hardest part is accepting that timing can hurt just as much as rejection
that 'almost' can ache more than 'never'
and that wanting someone does not make them ready
learning to walk away from someone who is not ready is not giving up on love
it is choosing a version of it that does not require you to wait for someone else to catch up to their feelings
